Series 88 was conceived in 1985 as one of the most technically advanced concert guitars in the world. After two and a half years of research, it was prototyped in 1988, and hence gained its name. It was probably the first concert guitar in Europe to make consistent use of composite materials and it is still something of a milestone in guitar design of the late 20th century.

Since its inception, Series 88 has been progressively refined in order to shape and conserve acoustic energy. It is now a very sophisticated instrument, and much sought after for its unique blend of power, its broad range of tone colour, and its striking beauty.

Many of the visual elements were designed by Liz Semple and are based on Art Nouveau motifs which are echoed in the soft choice of colours and the gentle curves of its construction.
